California Vist
After graduating AIT February of 2021
They both graduated, each stepping forward into the next chapter of their lives, but not without a sense of something special lingering in the air. After training, Bethany’s family was in Mexico, handling adoption paperwork. On the way, she stopped in California—David’s hometown—to visit her friend Sammy. Upon arriving, she decided to reach out to some of her friends from AIT, many of whom happened to be from California. Bethany is usually is the social one, so she figured it’d be a great way to reconnect. But she is glad David came along, even though he’s more of an introvert. It was in California that their friendship truly deepened. They spent the days shopping, trying sushi restaurants, sightseeing, and hiking, and it was the first time they both realized how easy it was to be around each other was when their friendship felt so natural, so pure, like it had always been there. They didn’t need to seek anything from each other; it was just simple and innocent. They always felt safe, understood, and completely at ease.
David’s perspective
After California, our connection only grew stronger. We became the first people we called when something happened, big or small. It became a habit of mine to call Bethany after work, and I would talk to her about my day like we had all the time in the world. My drive home was only five minutes, but I would find myself circling my neighborhood again and again, just to keep talking to her a little longer. Still, neither of us had any idea that our feelings were quietly growing.
