The Spark That Started It All

What drew Bethany to David

What drew me to David was how easily we seemed to understand each other, even without saying much. We were always on the same wavelength—laughing at the same things, sharing little inside jokes that no one else quite got. To this day, we both believe we were paired up because our humor amused our instructors. Our laughter became the secret bond that started everything.

When I was at AIT, I was incredibly focused, driven by my desire to graduate and make my family proud. That determination sometimes led to stress, but being around David always had a calming effect on me. He had this quiet presence that made me feel at peace, even in the most tense moments.

One thing that really stood out about David was his character—he was a man of few words but many actions. So many people during training talked about going active, then infantry, but David was different. When he said something, you could tell he meant it, and when he graduated, he immediately followed through on what he’d said. It was this quiet reliability, this ability to do exactly what he said he would, that I found so admirable. David’s words had weight, and that was something I respected deeply.

What drew David to Bethany

Bethany has a heart of gold. There’s not a trace of malice in her, and her simplicity is something I admire more than I can put into words. Her presence is pure, almost like she brings a sense of calm to every room she enters. It’s impossible not to feel safe around her, and I’ve always had this instinct to protect that side of her. It’s funny, though—no matter how much our titles have changed over time, the essence of our friendship has remained the same. Life has become infinitely more beautiful with her by my side, and I can’t help but feel incredibly lucky for the gift of her friendship.

What first drew me to Bethany was how quickly she became my best friend. I could talk to her about anything—no judgment, no discouragement, just a space to completely be myself. It was rare to find someone I could be that open with, and that felt like something special right from the start. Our shared belief in God brought us even closer, and I began to realize she was unlike anyone I’d met before. There was something about her that made me feel like I could just be me—nothing more, nothing less.

I loved how dependable she was. Even when life got busy and she couldn’t answer, she always called back. That kind of consistency wasn’t just reassuring—it made me feel secure, like I could count on her no matter what. I loved how understood I felt by her. She knew exactly when to encourage me, and when to push me forward. Whether it was something big or small, she was always there.

It’s funny, though—sometimes, I think back to those early days when I was just so focused on being her friend, and I realized I was falling for her without even knowing it. She’s my best friend, my biggest supporter, and, honestly, the love of my life.
